We keep hearing about the frugal concept and somehow I find it pretty tough to keep myself under control financially. No I am not a spendthrift but sometimes go for impulsive shopping. Slowly but steadily I have learnt to save money by just being smart. It is not so difficult to avoid unnecessary expenditures. Being a little towards the artistic mode I planned to stop wasting money on gifts. My best friend said it looks cheap but I did not pay any heed because I knew this would help in the long run.

With the festive season coming close I am sharing these ideas. It is social responsibility to gift the loved ones, something really precious that can be cherished. This is not related to money but with feelings.

Last Christmas I gifted my mother with a chocolate cake. She just loves chocolate and I did a chocolate icing then spread chocolate chips all over the cake. Well baking a cake, doing all the decoration all by myself brought tears to my mother’s eyes. Not that I wanted to see her cry but I loved that she cherished such a simple gift because it was a token of love from her daughter who knows her likings.

Deciding upon what to present dad with….I started digging my old trunk which contains archive stuff which I had brought from home when I shifted base. I found the old pictures of me and my dad and of course mom sometimes all together. I scanned them and made a collage of the pictures. I pasted the printout on a board and decorated it with silver shades in the border. I created the hinge myself at the back of the frame. No I did not laminate this, just wanted the raw feel. Dad did not cry but he simply put it up above the fire place. His nonchalant expression could not escape my understanding. I know that this fireplace is where he spends most of his time.

This post is just to let everyone brush up the past. Expensive gifts do not show love. It’s the value that you add to a present that speaks about you and your affection towards the recipient.
